How to join a Valheim Dedicated Server (Quick & Easy)

Recently got a Dedicated Valheim Server from DatHost or hosting your own? Here’s how to connect to your Valheim server quick and easy!

There are currently three ways on how you can connect to your server. The best way is probably by adding the server as favorite in Steam – so you can easily find it in the future as well. In this guide we will show you step by step guides for all alternatives.

How to Add Server to Steam Favorites

1. Open the Steam App, then go to View → Servers in the menu.

2. Click on Favorites¹ and then Add a Server².

3. Enter your servers IP address and click Add This Address to Favorites. 

Note: If you’re hosting the server yourself, you should use the port you assigned +1 (so e.g. 13338 if you assigned port 13337). If you’re using DatHost, just use the port we give you.

4. Click Refresh and your server should appear. You can double click the server or click the Connect button to join the server.

Note: If you have a lot of favorite servers, try clicking Change Filters and set the game to Valheim to make it easier to find.

5. If you had Valheim opened, tab into the game. If not, the game will launch, and after some time you’ll be put into the character selection screen. Select your character and click Start. This will connect you to the server.

6. Finally, enter the server’s password and hit Enter. You’re in!

How to Join Server with IP In-Game

1. Copy your IP address. If you’re using DatHost you’ll find your details by hovering the IP in your DatHost Control Panel.

2. Start up Valheim. Click Start Game and choose your character. Click Start.

3. Click the Join Game tab and then Join IP.

4. Enter your IP address and port, then click Connect.

5. Finally, enter the server’s password and hit Enter. You’re in!

How to Join through the Server List In-Game

Note: Sometimes it can take some time before all servers load, so it could be easier with one of the other solutions we show above. Also, sometimes it isn’t showing at all in the list due to a bug in the game. So this option isn’t as reliable as the other two above.

1. Start up Valheim. Click Start Game and choose your character. Click Start.

2. Click the Join Game¹ tab. Tick the box for Community² and filter on your server’s name³.

3. When you find your server, click on it¹ and then on Connect².

4. Finally, enter the server’s password and hit Enter. You’re in!
